Silverlight: AG_E_UNKNOWN_ERROR in Visual Studio Designer

by Viper 27. December 2008 08:08

I was working on a custom control for silverlight. I was using Visual Studio designer to layout some controls on the page. All of a sudden i started getting AG_E_UNKNOWN_ERROR in XAML pane. I could not find anything wrong with any mark up or any attributes. I tried to remove and add some of the controls on the page. I then noticed that it was following a pattern. I was getting this error when adding a TextBox control on the page. And it was very consistent. After thinking about it I recalled that I was getting error for controls where I had added x:Name attribute to the control. I recalled when I was using Beta version of Silverlight 2, I used to get some errors in XAML for no reason. Looks like that problem has not gone away in release version on silverlight.

The way I got rid of this AG_E_UNKNOWN_ERROR was by closing project in Visual Studio and then reopen. And it works :-)

boiler installation review

I have been experimenting with the express editions of Visual Studio to develop my knowledge for a number of months and I am starting to undertake the changeover to the professional version. Before I do this I would like to improve my detailed knowledge of using the package before I splash a load of cash. My earlier experience is as a web programmer with mysql, php, most linux based tools and a little flash with actionscript, now I am migrating to a Microsoft package. I am finding it is a large learning curve and am attempting to build my awareness with some specialist blog reading.  The title " Silverlight AGEUNKNOWNERROR in Visual Studio Designer " in your post made me grabbed my attention.  I find the Visual Studio tutorial websites  are oftentimes inflexible and address the identical points resembling an online manual.  Discussion in blogs can address effective methods to resolve problems which leads me through the learning curve more rapidly.  Thanks for the post.

I admit, I have not been on this webpage in a long time... however it was another joy to see It is such an important topic and ignored by so many, even professionals. I thank you to help making people more aware of possible issues. Great stuff as usual...
